Normanites will vote for new City Council representatives in Wards 1, 3 and 7 on Feb. 12. In Norman City Council Ward 5, incumbent Sereta Wilson ran unopposed and has been functionally re-elected.
A post on her Facebook reads: “Sereta is a proven leader that has been a vocal advocate for the citizens of ward 5. She understands the uniqueness of the diverse ward and has led the charge in making it the most vocal and civically activated ward in the city.”
Mostly rural, Ward 5 consists of the largest land mass of all the wards in Norman. Ward 5 is on the east side of Norman, encompassing Lake Thunderbird and Little Axe.
Sereta Wilson
Profession: Small-business owner
Experience: Wilson is the Ward 5 incumbent, serving on the Finance committee and Community Planning and Transportation committee. She is also the council liaison to the Visit Norman Board.
Platform: Wilson is an advocate for the senior center and Norman Forward projects. She opposes the University North Park TIF. She says she also hopes to create a safety corridor for dangerous rural roads and make Norman more business-friendly.
