A truck pulling heavy equipment couldn’t clear the May Avenue bridge over Northwest Expressway just before 3 p.m. Thursday, according to NonDoc contributing reporter Bryan Smith.
The northbound portion of the May Avenue bridge collapsed as a result. The jack and trailer were headed westbound on Northwest Expressway headed away from downtown.

An Oklahoma City Police officer on the scene told Smith there were no serious injuries.
Kristy Yager with the City of Oklahoma City emailed media a statement saying the crash happened at 2:40 p.m.
“Police are investigating the cause of the crash,” the statement said. “Engineers are evaluating the damage to the bridge, and an estimate on the time needed for repairs won’t be available until the evaluation is complete.”
Oklahoma Department of Transportation spokeswoman Brenda Perry said the bridge was property of the City of Oklahoma City. She said ODOT had transferred ownership of the bridge “many years ago.”
At post time, traffic was blocked in all four directions.
