On the heels of the resignation of National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver focused on the “weird, noticeably soft spot” President Donald Trump has for Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation.
From incredible photo ops involving Putin retrieving sunken treasure during a diving expedition to the alleged assassination of political rivals and known use of hidden-camera footage to blackmail opponents, Russia’s president has a certain charisma about him that seems to attract our current Commander in Chief.
“Wouldn’t it be great if we actually got along with Russia?” Trump is quoted as asking rhetorically in several video clips compiled together.
But why this affinity for such a textbook villain of Western democracy? Is Trump compromised somehow? Is he simply naive?
Regardless of the actual answer (which none of us will likely ever know), Oliver makes yet another attempt to educate our President in a form that he can hopefully understand: cheesy pop music.
