Zua
by James Coburn

I walk with Angola
Knowing a young man,
A rising voice of his people
Percolating from generations
Pure as the night sky;
Fervent as a great river
Joining an ocean of life,
Touching lands beyond
A sacred trust, boundless
As his friendship calming
His people left dispossessed
By a ruling class feeding
Itself with dark jewels
Hidden from light
With sparks imploding might.
For it is his people’s
Time to come.
The life-blood of Africa
Imprints with his steps.
