(Amy Stinnett)

They say home is where your heart is, but it’s also where you receive your mail.

In both instances, the 73118 ZIP code has always been NonDoc’s home, and we would like to invite you to celebrate a once-in-a-century event that should be as fun as it is absurd: A 73118 ZIP code party on Tuesday, July 31.

If you write out this year’s July 31 date numerically, it stands as: 7/31/18. Take away the slashes and you have one of Oklahoma City’s most vibrant ZIP codes: 73118.

So, starting at 5 p.m. here at NonDoc world headquarters — 3800 N. Classen Blvd., Suite C-80, Oklahoma City, Okla., 73118 — we will celebrate another year’s worth of growth, and we will let our supporters know what’s on tap for the future.

Light refreshments — beer and snacks — will be available thanks to the generosity and ongoing support of the Oklahoma Beer Distributors and Scottie’s Deli. We will have brief remarks as well as a drawing for fun door prizes gifted to us by supporters such as En Croute (6460 N. Avondale Dr.), Shartel Cafe (5116 N. Shartel Ave.), Groomer A Go-Go (4141 N. Western Ave.), Green Bambino (5120 N. Shartel Ave.) and others that we are finalizing.

All attendees will receive a door-prize ticket, and those who contribute to the Writers’ Fund — to support independent local journalism financially — will receive extra attempts to earn tickets.

Remarks will be made at about 6 p.m. with the prize drawing at about 6:15. You can RSVP to our Facebook event here.

Reasons to support independent journalism

Last July, we hosted a growth party to announce some key goals, all of which were met in the subsequent months:

  • establishing a new office (come see it),
  • hiring a client relations manager (Amy Stinnett is great)
  • and setting new site traffic records (June 2018 was our most-read month ever).

We also raised much-needed financial support from readers like you who gave to our Writers’ Fund because you believe Oklahoma needs independent, fair and system-challenging journalism.

Artist, author and local radio host Jack Fowler explained his support for NonDoc:

So, on 73118 Day (Tuesday, July 31) drop by your friendly neighborhood nondoctrinaire newsroom and drop a quarter in our proverbial jukebox.

With continued support from advertisers and readers, we will keep bringing you information about Oklahoma’s #election2018 and accurate stories from the State Capitol that you often won’t find anywhere else. In addition, we will work toward hosting more political debates and publishing more commentaries featuring diverse voices offering their opinions on important social and civic matters.
