A comic from Mike Allen

Creative Non-Fiction
by Gary Reddin

Keeping time
to the malicious
beating of a
dead horse.
Did you wash your mouth with acid?
The Old
Gods dance in
children’s heads at
Sunday school.
Your father knows
only that the sun has risen,
not where it may have
been last night.
Preying Mantis?
No,
Praying mantis.
Do you even know how to cook?
Spare the rod
spoil the child

Why would you do that?
I don’t want to know.
The schism is in
your brothers head.
We go to rivers floating like sailors!
The monsters in the
forest have made their
way into your heart
where they creep
like killers.
Losing faith
in the
plaster saints.
Pastor?
Yes,
Past her.
We will fall from the mountains again!
Spoil the meat
spare the child.

Presque Vu

Something lingered on his tongue for a moment,
but he could not place the taste of the words.
