So another season has come and gone for the Thunder, and the taste fans are left with in their mouths is… bitter. The team had a disappointing first round exit from the playoffs, and their future looks uncertain to say the least. The two superstars, Russell Westbrook and Paul George, will remain in OKC for now, but that’s as far as “sure things” go with regard to the current roster.
One bizarre question I’ve heard asked by local and national sports media: “Has the game of basketball moved away from Russell Westbrook?” After the playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers, and the level at which Damian Lillard played, I can understand the knee jerk thoughts that might emerge. However, I think it’s a weird question to ask about a player who has just averaged a triple-double for the third straight season. I mean, if that isn’t dominating the game, I don’t know what is.
Will the Thunder be a good team next year? Probably. How good, though, hinges on roster changes and, well, shooting practice.
