You may have noticed many of your friends posting older-looking versions of themselves on social media this past week thanks to the FaceApp old age filter. You may have also seen many people posting, just as quickly, about how the app is developed by a Russian company: FaceApp Inc.
I haven’t tried to use FaceApp, nor do I plan to. Not because of some questionable legalese in the terms of use, but well, it just doesn’t interest me. This is simply the latest episode in a long line of privacy concerns involving apps, social media, phones, etc. If I have any advice to give about this or other things like it in today’s world it’s this: If you put it on the internet, some entity — government or private — probably has access to it in some way, and perhaps partial ownership as well. I’m certain most of NonDoc’s readers already knew this though, right?
