Sooners on Sunday
(Mike Allen)

I know, I know: This comic is a “dad joke” if I’ve ever made one.

I’m very confident, however, that there will be plenty of those to go around at tailgates in Norman for the OU Sooners’ first football game tonight.

This year to open the season, surprisingly, we will be watching the Sooners on Sunday evening, which is not normal to say the least. I heard quite a bit of grumbling about this when it was first announced earlier in the year, but the complaints quickly subsided when everyone realized OU vs. Houston will be the only college football game on this evening, thus putting the spotlight squarely on Norman.

National exposure has always been important in sports, and this move by the OU Athletic Department is a smart one to that end. Enjoy it, I say. Something like this may not happen again for a long time.
