The Autumn Solstice
by Laura Romig
She didn’t just shut the door to her life
She slammed it hard and walked into the light
Her past deleted with one fingertip
She regretted nothing just the time lost
Wiser her vision became clearer with each breath
A bonfire of photos books dreams and wishes
Gone up in smoke to celebrate the Autumn Solstice
It wasn’t easy but she created a scenario
She knew would work pushed every button
For him to do what she could not do herself
He never realized it was all preplanned to remove
Her forever from his enticing magic words
All the other women gone with him
All the lies heartbreak and contempt she felt
Released and the hourglasses turned upside down
He was like a Cobra swaying to a tune only to
Strike the heart and mind leaving only the death of love
But like the Phoenix she rises and is reborn from the ashes.
