pre-meal ritual
(Mike Allen)

Don’t worry, this isn’t a “get off my lawn” comic. I can’t say I personally understand taking pictures of everything you eat, but I do understand appreciating someone’s hard work, including chefs.

I was listening to a radio program about two years ago that had New York Times restaurant critic Pete Wells as a guest, and he spoke about the increasing effort of restaurants to plate things in a manner that would photograph well for social media. What better way to advertise your business?

However, he explained that sometimes this would come at the expense of the food being hot when served. By the time you finish photographing the dish (gotta make sure the lighting is just right) your meal will be approaching room temperature.

Food is art, in my opinion, and people paying more attention to what they eat can only be a good thing. With that said, I’ll be digging in before the photo shoots end.
